Cody James Patterson

April 12, 1989 — Oct. 6, 2013

Cody James Patterson of Philomath died while honorably serving his country in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

​

Cody was born April 12, 1989, in Corvallis. He graduated from Philomath High School and attended Linn-Benton Community College. While in high school he was captain of the football team and was Mr. PHS. After graduation he was a drummer in a local band. Cody will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a humble, kind, generous and driven individual who loved his family, country and friends.

Cody enlisted in the U.S. Army last year, and completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga., as an infantryman. After graduating from the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, he was assigned in November to Company B, 3rd BN., 75th Ranger Regiment, where he served as a Rifleman for both of his deployments to Afghanistan. His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program.

His awards and decorations include the Parachutist Badge and the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge. Cody also was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart and the NATO Medal.

Cody is survived by his father, Randall Patterson; mother, Nancy Wilson; sisters, Nicole Patterson, Letitia Williams, Taylor Patterson and Mara Wilson; brothers, Elijah Williams and Kapriel Wilson; grandparents, Lucy and John Leach; grandfather, James Patterson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
